Let me say this about that, in my best Nixonian. I find Ray McGovern to be a gem. I would that the bozos and bozoettes in DC and our worthless media payed more attention to the likes of Ray.
My observations are as follows: (1) Most of the crap that comes out of the foreign policy establishment in DC is all basically wishful thinking. Or, maybe I should steal from Carrie Fischer: wishful drinking - drinking Karl Rove's koolaid about the US now being an empire who made their own reality that was unassailable by lesser countries. Sorry Karl. Objective reality will always win in the long run.
(2) The old maxim is that the army is always ready to re-fight the last war. Our military proves it. But worse than that, they have concluded that everybody else thinks and strategizes the same way that we do. The big difference here is that the US is striving to create/keep/expand our hegemony. Russia isn't. The US is so accustomed to non-stop lying from the government that it never occurs to us that another power might tell you what they have in mind and mean it.
(3) The USG has become totally delusional. The whole line from Nod about the whole world being against Russia is pure delusion. Putting the economic screws to Russia and China is only going to slow them down somewhere between a bit and not at all. The United States, on the other hand, having tried to screw both Russia and China, isn't going to get any kind of ride from Russia and China. It's all so stupid.
This piece from Ray McGovern is worth it - if only for your introduction Patrick. In Pearls and Irritations to-day a long list of trustworthy media/political commentary by Dennis Argall - a former Australian Ambassador to Beijing - of course includes your name, PL. I am not dismissing RMcG's essay - important corrective as it is to the negative propaganda of the "mainstream" US press and vested political "interpretations"!
Too late for this article. How many posts and articles i share about the most important event happens this year? I look for something wrotte by you and i get nothing. It's a pitty.
