Actually, Mr. Lawrence, I think that the NYT lost it's ability to claim objectivity back about the time of Wen Ho Lee. I have been complaining that American society has become totally sclerotic for decades now. And I'm not talking about the hard stuff - the Civil Rights Act depends on the interstate commerce clause of the Constitution (really ?!?!). Or even rules changes that would make third parties viable. I'm talking about the really simple stuff - can't we have voting on the weekend so people don't have to take time off work?

In the end, I think this will be the US's undoing as we slip into the dustbin of history as another society that couldn't remain dynamic.
